In Little Orange Man, the audience is shepherded by twelve-year-old Kitt, the Kinder Whisperer as she undertakes a massive dream experiment — which requires access to the audience’s subconscious. Kitt’s world-view has been informed as much by her grandfather’s gruesome folktales as by Google and quantum theory. Using homemade technology, Kitt extracts and reenacts the audience’s dreams. It’s at once unsettling and charming, haunting and hilarious, as she wrestles with the true awesome power of the imagination.

Little Orange Man offers both heart and thought. An enchanting, fantastical theatre dream.” — Culture Vulture Victoria

Little Orange Man was a sold-out hit at the Vancouver and Victoria International Fringe Festivals in 2011.

Little Orange Man Interview Video

Half the time I was bawling, the other half I was laughing out loud. Hansen’s manipulation of found object puppets- many of which are made of food- is so lifelike that you find it hard to believe they aren’t alive.” – The Craig

Kitt & Jane
Belfry Theatre Incubator Project

March 2012

Created by Kathleen Greenfield, Ingrid Hansen & Rod Peter Jr.
With stage management & creative contributions from Jess Amy Shead.
.

Fourteen-year-old social-rejects (and possible geniuses) Kitt and Jane host an interactive survival guide to the post-apocalyptic future. Kitt & Jane is the sequel to Little Orange Man.

.

The Hosts of Kitt & Jane:

Kitt Pedersen: Raised on a farm by her grandfather without television or the interweb.   Kitt was the kind of child parents were afraid to let their kid have a play date with.  Exuberant.  Persistant.  Seems to be able to communicate sophisticated ideas to small children through gibberish and hand guestures.  May grow up to be a serial killer.   Possible superpower: weirding people out.

Lucas Jameson –known by everyone as Jane: limp masculinity makes him a target for hazing.  Has taken on a dark, dangerous, misunderstood persona to ward off attacks. Cannot afford hand held computers, socks, or deodorant, but seems to have high-functioning technological skills.  May grow up to be a serial killer.  Hints of, however, a softer, gentler soul inside.

Kitt & Jane is premiering March 14 – 18th at the Belfry SPARK Festival

Reviews for Little Orange Man
“. . .Sheer joyous magic to behold.  I flew a few thousand miles to be at this Fringe Festival.  If I’d known how good this show was gonna be, I would have been happy to walk. LITTLE ORANGE MAN is the kind of inventive, affecting, heartfelt and unique storytelling that you normally only dream about.  Just an utter, utter privilege…Victoria, you should be proud of this one.” - The Visitorium

“Half the time I was bawling, the other half I was laughing out loud. Kitt pulls you headfirst into her world- literally (The show involves audience participation). Hansen’s manipulation of found object puppets- many of which are made of food- is so lifelike that you find it hard to believe they aren’t alive. It is hard to describe a show this amazing, all I can say is that if you only see one play in your entire life, it should be this one.” - The Craig

“Visually stunning, superbly performed and incredibly inventive, Little Orange Man stands out from the Fringe pack. Kitt, our gawky and spastic star, acts out the tragic fairy tales she has heard from her beloved grandfather and regales her guests with snippets from her life. This intriguing outcast uses puppetry and projection to tell her stories, to extraordinary effect. Ingrid Hansen proves herself to be a dexterous artist who can sing, act and move beautifully; she incorporates her audience into the action divinely and performs with precision.”   —E.G. Anderson, Culture Vulture Victoria
